Neil Young ' "Cinnamon Girl". This crunching
one-note riff is a work of art over 3-minutes from a guitar music player possibly
better known for his epic solos. Its proton-grunge from 1969, and David Byrne of
Talking Heads once supposed that "Cinnamon Girl" inspired the one memo
machine-gun riff that closes "Psycho Killer".
Smashing Pumpkins - 'Today'. Music Billy Corgan took over guitar duties himself for this riff, which nods to the pentatonic scale, and which returns repetitively and superbly throughout the song which helped launch 'Siamese Dream" to fast generation-defining heights.
