In the extra hysterical corners of the music press, 18-year-old youth Jake
Bugg has been lauded as “the next Bob Dylan”. In actuality, he’s more like Alex
Turner on audio guitar. There are worse things to music sound like, of course:
Bugg’s self-titled debut went directly to number one, Noel Gallagher has selected
him as his hold up act, and last night’s show sold out as quick as a lightning
bolt.
Let’s in other senses, this is extraordinary music to be championed in 2012.
Before Bugg and his two-piece group took the stage, the sounds of Hendrix and
Dylan were annoying from the speakers, while opening amount Kentucky nodded to
Johnny Cash. Cutting edge, this isn’t. The best Nottingham singer’s between-song repartee requires some work too at
present it extends to him tongue-tied the title of the next tune while staring closely
at this shoes but there was no denying the songwriting assure on show: Note To personality
and easy As This were as fat-free as their music maker.
