About Famed Chicago Early Music Festival

Travel around six centuries of music in six days at the first Chicago Early Music Festival. In performances, master classes, workshops, and lectures, join together internationally well-known musicians in a celebration of music of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque eras.

Presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the Chicago Office of Tourism, this unparalleled partnership surrounded by the City of Chicago and some of Chicago’s leading Early Music ensembles and organizations features Chicago Opera Theater, University of Chicago Presents, International Music Foundation, Baroque Band and the Newberry Consort.

The event will take place between 20-25th of April and will comprise a crowd of concerts, master classes, and special presentations.

Some highlights:

• Opera: The Chicago Opera Theater near Francesco Cavalli’s Giasone (Christian Curnyn, music director).

• Orchestra: The Baroque Band dedicates an entire program to assortment from Antonio Vivaldi’s L’estro armonico, a set of concertos famous in their day.

• In performance: Recorder prodigy Piers Adams and harpsichordist Howard Beach present a program on both sides of four centuries, the Newberry Consort performs music of William Byrd, Trio Settecento discovers music of the French Baroque, and harpsichordist Mitzi Meyerson gives a concert of baroque works.

• Dance: American decorative dancer Paige Whitley-Bauguess is attending by the Bach and Beethoven Company in a travel around of some of the baroque’s well-known dances.

• Lessons: Masterclasses will be obtainable by Piers Adams, Paige Whitley-Bauguess, Mitzi Meyerson, and baroque violinist Nadja Zwiener.
